Watch out for the Devilish Business Angel!

In search for the Holy Grail entrepreneurs will do anything to get a Business Angel on board. Sometimes focusing on running and building their business even becomes second place. Equity funding is seen as the solution to all their startup problems. With a bit of money they will be able to realize their dreams and success will follow naturally.

In addition, it seems that all “entrepreneurial support” communities and organizations encourage this behavior. Events, webinars, workshop,…

A Vision for the Future, A Strategy for Getting There

Strategy is such an overhyped word. It is used way too much by senior managers playing “Cowboys & Indians” as if they were 5-years olds, hiding behind fantasy PowerPoint with plans & processes instead of being out there, executing. Strategy sounds as if we are playing Risk, the board game, where a combination of intellectual thinking combined with an even more important factor called “the role of the dices” determine who will concur the world and win the game.

And the problem…

Appreciate to Depreciate

Depreciation is a complex area. Entrepreneurs don’t really understand the need for it. Especially not when they are starting. You are fully focused on cash in- and outflows, and depreciations are a cost, but not a cash outflow. I guess, it also becomes more important when you earn money and your financial focus shifts from Cash Flow Statement to Profit & Loss ("P&L) or Income statement.

However, although depreciation does not affect the cash you have in your bank account, it…

Finding Mr. Perfect: The Ideal Management Buy-In Candidate

There are not a lot of start-ups and high-growth companies who will manage on their own. More precisely said, most successful startups consist of 2 to 3 management partners. Often you see 2 founders starting, and the 3rd one will join later when the company is a bit bigger and the team needs more specialized skills on board.

There are 2 routes. The first, which is often used, is that the new management team member joins against some sort of minimum salary and “earns” shares in the…

Santa Clause is running out of Seed Capital. Now What?

Seed capital is almost like a gift. You have an idea. Closely comparable with a trial balloon. You have no organization, no customers. No proof at all that your brilliant idea is perceived in the same manner. Seed capital is not a form of capital because of solid historical and operational performance. It is a gift. A favor. Santa Claus likes you. You behaved well this year. Now you deserve a present.

It is much easier to raise capital as an established entrepreneur then as a first…

Pitching & Presentation - 3 Min., 1 Impression

I am one of those naive people thinking that Substance will prevail over Form. But I am wrong. It is "Form over Substance". Well.., not totally. Substance does matter. A lot actually. But only after you passed the Form-test. Which is more or less equal to your first impression.

ScienceDaily (Jan. 18, 2011) states:

New research by a team of psychologists from Canada, Belgium, and the United States shows there is more than a literal truth to the saying that…

Business Plan Writing, A Roadmap to Success

I am very straightforward and very old fashioned when it comes to business plans. They ARE important. I cannot subscribe that enough, and disagree with a lot people out there claiming you just need 10 pages. Yes, you do need just 10 pages to sell your self. But to get to 10 perfect pages, you need to understand much, much more then just that.

And yes. Real life will never be as you had predicted in your plan. But that is not the point. It is not about predicting the future. Or being…

Official Launch of EFactor Funding Tuesday!

EFactor officially launches Funding Tuesday as of today all around the world!

We believe that funding is one of the most relevant topics for entrepreneurs. But not only funding, also financial topics, tax, investors, acquisitions et cetera. All these are somehow financially related. And numbers are involved.

The problem is that seed capital is hard to find. What is the value of an idea? Or a loss-making company? How much to fund when there are no securitization…

Aangeboden: antwoord of inzicht

Of toch…
